B. vagans is a terrestrial tarantula that is predominantly from Mexico, but can be found as far South as Belize, El Salvador & Guatemala. Adults can grow to be 5" in legspan. They like a warm, dry enviornment. In my experience, B. vagans is a more handleable tarantula, but not quite as easy going as their relative Brachypelma smithi (Mexican redknee). They can be skittish and fast when startled.  B. vagans has a velvety black body with bright red hairs on its abdomen which explains how it got the common name of "Mexican red rump".
